TAKE PART
A downloadable game
This is my submission to the Pleasure-not-Business Card RPG Jam.
When you receive a business card, ask the giver if you can use it to generate a PART (Personal Avatar for Raiding Treasure). If they assent, generate a PART:
1 . Assign them a Persona based on how many letters on the card can be used to make up the name of the Persona.
2 . Assign Aptitudes using any numerals (1-9) available on the card. If there aren't enough numerals, convert any unused letters to numerals by finding their position in the alphabet and adding up numerals until you get just one.
3 . Work out Resistances based on the colours present on the card. For each variation of a colour present, increase that Resistance by 1, up to a max of 5.
4 . Work out Toughness, which starts at 10, plus 1 for every unused numeral, letter or icon on the card. Give the PART a cool name and look.
You can send PARTs on Raids. To go on a Raid, find a pamphlet, brochure, catalogue, etc. and try to get up to 4 PARTs through as many pages as possible.
Each page will generate a Danger of a certain Aptitude to overcome (an Alien, Beast, Hazard, Monster, etc. of a certain colour). You can use something on the page as inspiration or roll.
To defeat a Danger and advance, choose a PART to take the lead. You need to roll a d10 and get equal or under the relevant Aptitude. For each other PART's Persona that could reasonably aid you, roll an additional d10 and pick the lowest. If you succeed, you all advance to the next page. If you fail, you lose Toughness equal to the result of your roll and can either keep trying or swap the lead PART. If you have Resistance that matches the colour of the Danger, you reduce the amount of Toughness lost by your Resistance. If any 1 PART loses all Toughness, you all fail the Raid but may each increase one Aptitude by 1.
If you make it all the way through, you each win Treasure equal to the number of pages advanced.
Collect 50 Treasure to Ascend.
