Ithaca in the Cards v1.1 Release Notes

This version has been updated as part of the revision of the Homebound zine for its reprint, which includes updates to Far From Home.

The updates are focused on controlling the pace of the game better, and to provide some more dimension to the reflections:

  • Aces now can only be used to swap out cards from player draws, rather than also used for refreshing Assets. They also now only replace the last drawn card, rather than any drawn card, which makes it harder to craft a 21 and lead to less "happy endings".
  • Changed the terminology from "Checking" Assets to "Exhausting" them.
  • Instead of drawing and keeping 9s and 10s, players now get to gain a new Asset which serves a similar purpose to refreshing them and then discard the card and draw a new one. This substantially changes the game's pacing as removing the 9s and 10s from the players means that the only 3-card draws that end the game immediately for a player are 777, 888, 778, 887 and 886, which is a lower incidence than before. However, the Challenge can still contain 9s and 10s so will be more likely to ramp up which is why the additional Asset has been added to balance it out a bit.
  • Added an option to start with one or more Aces face up, which should allow for players to adjust the difficulty of the game.
  • Added an additional axis for the reflection prompt, based on whether the last drawn card is odd or even. This sets the tone of the reflection.  I've also updated the descriptions of the prompts a bit for clarity.

Please feel free to send any feedback my way and if you notice any typos, issues or have any concerns or questions.
